Hair Removal (Sugaring and Waxing)
What is Sugaring
Sugaring is an ancient all natural hair removal technique. A good alternative to traditional polymer based wax.
Waxing vs Sugaring
The application and removal of wax and sugar is done in opposite ways. Sugar is applied against the hair grain and removed with the hair growth direction, which minimizes hair breakage to allow more hair to be removed from the root. Wax adheres to skin and hair
Which should I choose for hair removal?
Sugaring is my preferred method because of its many positives over waxing. However, I do not recommend sugaring for a first time brazilian waxing as the short pulls may be more painful.
How long does waxing or sugaring last?
Generally at least 2 weeks for a first time.
Why do some hairs grow right after being removed?
Our hair has three growth phases, Anagen, Catagen and Telogen. You may see some hairs grow out sooner than others depending on these three phases. At the time of waxing/sugaring you may have some hairs in a new growth phase that had not yet reached the surface to be removed by the follicle. People also have individual hair growth rates as well as different body hairs have different lengths of growth phases, for example, eyelashes have a short anagen phase before shedding and being replaced as compared to head hair and we do not need to trim eyelashes. Hormones, genetics and age, medications can all affect a persons hair growth stages.
How often should I get sugared or waxed?
Generally, every 4 weeks if you’d like to maintain. It generally takes 4-6 weeks for the hair to reach the length needed for removal once it has been removed from the root.
How long should my hair be to be waxed or sugared?
About the size of a grain of rice. 1/4-1/2 inch for waxing, sugaring can be as short as 1/8 inch. About 10-14 days after shaving.
Can I get waxed or sugared if I’m pregnant
Yes, but its recommended you speak with your doctor. At the last trimester you may be more sensitive. We can limit consecutive time spent on back, especially in last trimester.
What if I have herpes, can I get a brazilian?
Not if you're having an active flare.
What if I’m on my period, can I still get waxed or sugared?
Yes, I just ask you wear a fresh tampon or cup.
What if I have genital piercings? Can I still get a Brazilian?
Yes, I just ask you to remove them. If they cannot be removed, you must make sure I’m aware of them so they do not get yanked out.
I have gotten red bumps or hives in the past when waxed. Is this normal?
This can be normal for some folks to have a temporary reaction to the hair being removed from the follicle. This is generally gone within a few hours.
Is bleeding normal after waxing or sugaring?
Pinpoint bleeding is normal. This typically happens with underarm or pubic hair. This blood has been nourishing the hair papilla.
How painful is sugaring or waxing?
There are many different factors such as your pain tolerance and the estheticians skills and knowledge. Larger hairs such as pubic hairs are generally more sensitive. Your first appointment is the most painful, it does get better if you regularly sugar or wax.
How should I prepare for my Sugaring/Waxing appointment?
Please come with clean skin, free of lotions or creams. Grow your hair out to ¼-½ inch. If your hair is longer than ½ inch, it's ideal if you to trim beforehand. Exfoliate your skin prior to your appointment.
Do you offer Transgender Brazilian/Brozilian?
Yes, absolutely. I would appreciate know what anatomy I will be working on prior to the appointment.
What about aftercare?
A few days after Sugaring/Waxing body hair it is important to exfoliate to prevent ingrown hairs. If the new hair cannot poke through the skin, it could be painful and or grow underneath the skins surface. Coupled with this, its even more important to ensure your skin is doesn't dry out as dry skin can contribute to in grown hairs. Using safe oils and occlusive barriers after bathing to lock in moisture is best. I can educate you more on aftercare.
Will my hair grow back thicker, coarser and or darker?
Generally, no. There is much misinformation spread about this subject. Adults have Vellus hairs (Peach fuzz) and terminal hairs (head, brows, lashes, arms, legs, pubic). I do not typically recommend removing vellus hairs as it could result in those hair follicles producing new terminal hairs.
Do you offer mens sugaring / waxing?
